THE LIONS CLUB....

Verne, it was not the PG Lions club that came to Lejac, They looked after the school in White Horse. It was a bunch of doctors and business people from Pr. George who formed the Scrooge & Marley Club who donated the money and their time to come to Lejac, buy the gifts and put on those wonderful Christmas parties. They also supplied sleeping bags for our camping trips. They were a very generous group of people. Thank you Jim for setting the record straight.

Hi Jim. I remember camping across the lake from the school. It was an arm that came out over the lake and had a pebble beach where we camped over-night making a fire and hanging out. A great week-end escape from school life. Awesome experience! photos late 1960s

TWO MORE LAKE PHOTOS....

I believe that might be Stuart Joseph of Portage and Ron Solonas of McLeod Lake in the top photo sitting on rocks in the water below Lejac school. And in the bottom photo a plane rests on the water. Planes often landing at Lejac at the docks coming in from other distant locations sometimes bringing visitors or the priest.

SPORTS DAY AT THE SCHOOL....

Physical fitness was an important part of life at residential school. Each year we had sports day in June when all the students competed. In about 1965-66 all the boys and girls in the entire school competed together in all the races. Events included high-jumping, relay, shot put and long distance to name a few. All the fields on the boys and girls' side were busy with different events taking place. photos 1961

BOYS...

That's Gordon Solonas of McLeod Lake in the top photo. And one of the boys is playing in a fort they made out of sod. This photo looks like it may be on the hill below the school. June 1963

WORKING OUT....

Ian Scott, one of the supervisors, and the boys work out in Rec Room. Fitness was an important part of life for the boys and Staff at the school. In the late 1960s they used to clear out the dining room evenings and all the senior boys and girls would work out doing calisthenics to keep fit.

A HOCKEY GAME IN REC ROOM...

Some of the boys enjoy a game of hockey in Rec Room. On the wall (bottom photo) behind the boys someone has written down something. Wonder what it says.

FORT ST. JOHN TRIP CONT'D

A rare moment. Photos of the boys in uniform marching to the beat of their drums and the blare of their music in a small town in northern British Columbia. As the crowd watches from the sidelines the Lejac Band performs to their music such as 'Green Beret' and 'Red Wings' which they have practiced and perfected. At this point in time (ca. 1966) the boys are 375 miles from home.

In 1966 in Canada all road signs were in miles. Today all the signs are in kilometers. So 375 miles is more like about 500 kilometers.
