About Boy Scouts....

In about 1967, the school introduced the Senior & Intermediate boys to Boy Scouts. Mr. Leonard Kenny, then supervisor for the Intermediates, explained to the boys and Staff at Lejac Indian Residential School all the benefits of the boys joining Boy Scouts. What followed was a bit of an adventure for many of the boys as they learned the purpose of Boy Scouts, building character, learning how to make a fire, building a lean-to and so forth. I remember we were each assigned a book with all the stuff we had to study and learn about Boy Scouts. I was 11 then. And then we had to build a proper fire, and Mr. Kenny came around to each of us (we worked in groups of three) to test us and to see if we built a 'proper fire'. And we all passed. That was at Ghost Town.
We also camped outside one winter at Ghost Town. We set up our tents in the snow, then before we all crawled into our sleeping bags for the night, Mr. Kenny cut these sharp sticks and stuck them in the snow around our tents in case any moose came wandering through our camp. The next year we built cabins at Ghost Town and slept in them instead of the tents.
